  Out of the world, into the Truth

  for some background - i studied on & off as a child with a jehovah's witness who has been patiently working on lots of our family for more than a decade and never gave up on any of us.

  as a middle-schooler and a highschooler, my love for jehovah and any association with my childhoood bible teacher... faded.

  There are several issues which follow from the idea of being patient for the fulfillment of prophecy. Here are two more of them:
  

  The first thing to remember is that real time functioning prophets and those who were called "prophets" were either mad or useless or both. No-one ever gave a "divinely inspired" prophecy which was useful to anyone else.

  To believe in prophecy is to declare you have no proper education and that you see the world like a child; chaotic, supernatural and subject to the whims of a spirit world.

  If prophecy actually worked then scientists amongst others would use prophets. As it is, prophecies are only broadcast to manipulate the gullible, take for example leaders of cults like the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses; they know that "Bible prophecy" is their trump card in keeping their membership going. Only a few realize the trick being played on the them. The majority of JWs are unthinking true-believers without the curiosity and courage to question governing body's doctrines and predictions, most of which are absurd and plain wrong and have been proved to be so, as Freddo has pointed out, for parts of three centuries.

  Secondly the context of the Biblical "end times prophecy" was only to do with Jews under Roman rule. The Jews like all the ancients, were suckers for supernatural omens and quite blatantly the prophecy (mug's game remember) was just for Jews and just for that generation and none other. Luke 21;32,33 and Mark 9;1

  The GB and everyone else should have noted that the Bible got it completely wrong so why continue to put faith in the Bible as a book of prophecy?

  The Best Is Yet To Come

  in my memory irecall a phase many years ago when this phrase seemed to be on everyone's lips "the best isyet to come".

  my of this may be not very clear but one thing is clear, nothing better ever came, silver sword, videos, caleb trash, lowering decorum, down, down, down.

  i dread to think what worse would be like!.

  i have been sneakily looking at this forum, almost every day, ever since it began!

  it has taken me till now to actually register and contribute.

  (actually i did register with a different name in the beginning but never commented).. i am a pimo elder with a fairly long history of senior "positions" in the organization.

  Welcome pimojw, join the clan! It only gets better mentally having escaped the JW mindset. Being a cult which needs humble, docile, obedient members, the org does not want you to go. Being awake means you can take the plunge to live an authentic life.

  we need not think about evil and suffering because evil is the absence of goodness and suffering is the consequence of choosing evil.

  I profoundly disagree that humans suffer because they have chosen evil. This is unsupportable by evidence and is perpetuated by reference to Bible myths on the origin of imperfection, in turn based on the myth of a former and perfect Golden Age.

  They certainly don't act or speak as if they had college degrees.They're in control ok but not due to their education.....the only qualifications required to be a GB member is having total blind loyalty to the organization and the mystical belief that the Bible is more important than evidence or logic.

  Don't you think that by simply asking this question that the idea of god disintegrates?

  Why would any mere human tolerate injustice and the pain of sickness, parasitic organisms, genetic malfunctions, cancer etc.

  If humans dearly wanted to remove these things then a 'loving God' surely would have already done so for his people. He can't because he exists only in the human imagination.

  president trump has decided to wind up the american war against the taliban.

  will he fare better than many before him.. the ny times recently published this group of images ranging from the nineteenth century until now, including this group of british officers (photographed in 1878 in afghanistan) many of whom likely stayed on in afghanistan permanently.. .

  i'm sure a group of modern day invaders would not look very different.

  the people at bethel were killing us spiritually and sometimes they killed us physically too.. many of the old timers were in the infirmary laying there just waiting to die of natural causes.

  some had served there for over fifty years.

  Bethel otherwise known as the JW headquarters is the actualization of "theocratic" living.

  By your description new boy, and there is no reason to doubt it, it is a dystopia; the depressing realization of utopian dreams.

  What Now? so sorry to hear of your mother's heartless rejection of you. It is so inhuman, so lacking in the natural feeling for family ties that it has to be the mark of a deranged cult at work.

  It's no real help to attempt to put the situation of you and your mother into words but be sure that you have friends here who at the very least do understand how tough it is for you.
